Noorthoek Academy invites members of the ASK community to join them on a College Visit Day March 11, 2024 at GRCC’s Wisner Bottrall Applied Technology Center, hosted in Room 120.

10:30-11:30 there will be a presentation by Education Director Sandy Barraza and Executive Director Lyn Vantol.

At 11:30 AM there will be an optional Campus Tour.

Union High School’s Transition Program is hosting an Autism Awareness Basketball Game on Friday, February 23 from 7-9pm in their gymnasium.

There will be a resource fair of various organizations serving the autism community available.

Join us for our November Support Group!

This group is open to anyone, including children if they can amuse themselves. We don’t provide child care, however.

November’s speakers will be Cassandra and Nick from Michigan Rehab Services, or MRS.

MRS helps with job training, job coaching, job placement, and much more. It’s never too soon to be thinking about life after school.

There will be plenty of time for families to talk with each other, too.

We will meet in the ASK office, which is located outside of the auditorium of the Special Olympics Building.

Enter the building via the Main Entrance, from the EAST parking lot, and head down the main hallway through the double doors, and you’ll see the ASK sign.

Are you a teen or young adult looking for fun and friendship? join our social group!

This group is open to anyone ages 12 and up. A guardian must attend, too, as we are not insured for drop off.

Join us at the Teen & Young Adult Social Group on Thursday, November 16, from 6:30-8pm, for glow in the dark mini golf, arcade games, and tons of fun!

Great Lakes Glow Golf is on the north side of GR on Plainfield.

This group is open to any child ages 6-11, who has an autism diagnosis or is awaiting diagnosis. A parent or guardian must accompany each child.

Cost to attend is $10 per child. (Parents do not need to pay.)

This Family Event is open to anyone with autism, and their family.

Cost is $25 per artist, and you will take home a beautiful project! Family members can paint, too.

SUPPORT GROUP: advice from a neuropsychologist, dr kelsey woolner, of pine rest

How can you get the best out of your child with autism? How can you increase independence, motivate them, and set them up for success?

Join Dr Kelsey Woolner, PhD, from Pine Rest, as she will help us navigate the challenges of autism.

There will be lots of time for questions, too.

This is open to anyone.

We will meet in the ASK office in the Special Olympics Center, at 160-68th Street SW, Grand Rapids.

The Center is located on the south side of 68th Street between Division and US131.

Park in the EAST lot and enter under the triangle roof. Head down the hall to the ASK office.

SAVE THE DATE for our October Family Event: a Trip to Post Family Farms!

The entire family is invited to join their family member with autism at this event, for just $8 per person!

Post Farms, Hudsonville, Monday, October 2, from 5-7pm.

***Arrive by 5:30pm to go on the group hayride!

Events include a hay ride to the pumpkin patch, a small pumpkin, cider, donuts, farm animals, pig/ pumpkin train rides, playground area, tube slides, and a straw play area!

This is fun for all ages, and a great way to enjoy fall fun as a family!
